Five school children are feared dead as a heavy duty vehicle rammed into eight of them among other pedestrians on Tuesday morning at Santaase near the Opoku Ware Senior High School in Kumasi.

Eyewitnesses told an Accra-based radio station Joy FM that the driver of the vehicle with registration number AS 5018 -12 was traveling from Cape Coast to Kumasi and lost control of the vehicle.

Three of the school kids are said to be in critical condition and have been rushed to the hospital for medical treatment whiles the fire Service personnel help to rescue others believed to be bread sellers trapped in the wreckage.

According to other media reports, the incident occurred as the driver of the truck, which was descending a slope, reportedly lost control and run into a pick-up truck dragging it along the road and knocking down the school children and other pedestrians.
